ReadCam Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 15, 2026

ReadCam is a camera teleprompter application published by Primitive Recordings LLC. This policy explains how the Android version of ReadCam handles information.

The short version

ReadCam keeps your scripts and recordings local on your device. ReadCam does not provide them to Primitive Recordings LLC, Google advertising, consent, or billing services, or any cloud service. Versions that include the free advertising and optional lifetime-unlock features use Google Mobile Ads, Google User Messaging Platform, and Google Play Billing as described below.

Information stored on your device

ReadCam stores the following information locally on your device:

  • scripts you create or paste, including script titles and local creation and modification times;
  • teleprompter, camera, countdown, reading-guide, opacity, and layout preferences; and
  • videos you record, including microphone audio, in the device’s Movies/ReadCam media folder.

Scripts and settings are stored in ReadCam’s private app storage. Recorded videos are normal user media managed by Android’s media system.

Camera and microphone

ReadCam requests camera access to display the selected camera preview and record video. It requests microphone access to record audio when you start a recording. Camera and microphone data are processed on your device and written to the video you ask ReadCam to create.

ReadCam does not upload camera frames, microphone audio, scripts, or completed videos to Primitive Recordings LLC or any cloud service.

Network access and third-party services

The current code-4 private-test build has no Internet permission and contains no account system, advertising, independent analytics, telemetry, remote crash-reporting, cloud-processing, or upload service.

Beginning with the Phase 3 free version, ReadCam may use a network connection to request and display Google-served advertising at a clean app-entry point. Ads are never requested or displayed during recording, prompting, countdown, saving, or script editing. ReadCam uses Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform. Those Google services may process and share approximate location inferred from your IP address, app interactions, diagnostic information, and device or account-related identifiers for advertising or marketing, analytics, and fraud prevention, security, and compliance. Google states that these data are encrypted in transit.

ReadCam removes the Android Advertising ID and Android AdServices permissions. Every ReadCam advertising request uses non-personalized treatment, a G-rated maximum content setting, and Google’s teen age-restricted treatment, including for adult users. Google User Messaging Platform may obtain, store, and communicate privacy-choice or consent state with Google and provides Google privacy controls where required.

ReadCam does not add independent developer analytics or a remote crash-reporting SDK. The analytics purpose above describes Google’s disclosed processing for Mobile Ads; Primitive Recordings LLC does not receive a separate ReadCam analytics dashboard.

Optional lifetime unlock and Google Play Billing

ReadCam may offer an optional one-time lifetime unlock through Google Play. Google Play processes the transaction and payment instrument; ReadCam does not receive your card, bank, or other payment credentials.

Google Play supplies ReadCam with product and purchase state needed to complete, acknowledge, remember, and restore the lifetime unlock. The current client-only implementation stores a local entitlement status, product identifier, and last-verification time and does not transmit a purchase token to Primitive Recordings LLC or a Primitive server. The lifetime unlock removes ReadCam advertising and can be restored through Google Play.

A future server-side purchase-verification service would require a separate privacy and data-handling review before activation.

If you choose Open Video, ReadCam grants temporary access to that specific saved video to the external media app you select. That external app operates under its own terms and privacy policy. Links in ReadCam’s About screen open your browser only when you select them.

Backups and device transfer

ReadCam disables Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer for its private scripts and settings. Videos saved in Movies/ReadCam are user media and may be handled by your device, gallery, backup, or synchronization services according to settings you control outside ReadCam.

Deleting information

You can delete individual scripts from ReadCam’s script library. Clearing ReadCam’s app storage or uninstalling ReadCam removes its private scripts and settings. Uninstalling ReadCam does not delete videos saved in Movies/ReadCam; delete those through your device’s gallery or file-management tools.

Because ReadCam does not transmit app data to Primitive Recordings LLC, there is no ReadCam cloud account or developer-held script or recording record to delete.

Website support and beta forms

The ReadCam website collects only the information you choose to submit through its support or beta tester forms. Support submissions may include your name, reply email address, ReadCam version, device and Android version, issue category, problem description, reproduction steps, and an optional screenshot if that field is offered. Beta submissions may include your name, Google Play account email, device and Android version, notes, prerelease acknowledgment, and communication consent.

Primitive Recordings LLC uses this information only to respond to support requests, operate the private support ticket workflow, evaluate tester requests, and communicate about ReadCam testing. Submissions are stored privately in the ReadCam WordPress database and may be delivered through Primitive’s transactional email service. They are not sold, used for advertising, or used for analytics. Submitting the beta form does not automatically enroll you in Google Play testing.

Do not submit passwords, signing credentials, payment data, full recordings, or private scripts. The forms disable form analytics and submission IP logging; ordinary hosting security logs may still temporarily record request information such as an IP address and browser user agent. Use the support form if you want to request deletion of a support or beta submission.

Children’s privacy

ReadCam is a general-purpose recording utility intended for users ages 13 and over. It is not directed to children under 13, and the app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when ReadCam’s features or legal obligations change. The published policy will show its effective date. Material changes will be reflected in the app or its store listing when appropriate.
